A Girl's Guide to Purple Prose

If a girl were to decide she might want to write chick-lit, how would she go about it? A girl might be tempted to pen some purple prose; this temptation ought to be resisted, say the authors of the new book See Jane Write: A Girl's Guide to Writing Chick Lit:
Purple is a perfectly fine colour. Purple prose, however, is not perfectly fine. Your chick-lit novel is no place to be flowery, so don't hurt yourself trying to create "fancy" sentences, because chances are an editor will see your attempt as overwrought and icky.
But what if I want to be flowery? What if I want to be fancy very badly? Where can I do that?
